A month ago, students of IX and X Std from Vidya Mandir Estancia visited J-Farm on a field trip, and judging by their feedback, they had a very informative and fun time there!

The field trip involved many activities, and one of them was an informative lecture by our very own S.S Nagarajan- VP Agricultural Research, J Farm, on Agriculture and its history. In addition to this, there was also a session delivered by the mechanic staff about Implements and machinery.

The Students seemed to have thoroughly engrossed themselves into knowing more about agriculture after this vist. Here’s a snapshot of their feedback on the visit, and a couple of pictures of the students at JFarm.

Other  activities from this field trip will be uploaded soon, so stay tuned to TAFECAFE!

Stress-Free Zone Launched at MDU

Madurai operations launched a cafeteria, referred to as the Stress Free Zone. This place was named in the same fashion as the Safety Zones in the plants.

This Stress Free Zone is a pay and use cafeteria at MDU where employees can have refreshments and also socialize with co-workers during the course of a busy day.

Since the MDU plant is situated about 40 kms from the city of Madurai, there are not many refreshment cafes nearby. To overcome this, the HR team and the Plant Head, with the help of the Admin team, set up this cafeteria. The initiative was put into action after receiving suggestions from employees on what facilities to implement.

The MDU employees work six days a week, and have a very busy routine. Hence, This stress free zone clearly serves as a very useful refreshment center for them!

A Short Poem Dedicated to Farmers

By

IXth  A

VIdya Mandir Estancia

(inspired by her field trip to JFarm)

Life without food,

Is like a tree without root.

Life without food,

Is like a bad dream come true

Food comes from farm,

These farms make our country charm,

Our country’s pride is hidden in farms,

But the growing population rings an alarm

Farmers try their best to cultivate more,

For lost ships to become a sea shore,

These efforts will not be in vain,

One day the dry land will also have rain!

THANKS to farmers for growing food!

THANKS to farmers for giving our life tree roots!

D P Lalvani Hangs Up His Boots

Mr. D.P. Lalvani, former Vice President, Marketing at TAFE passed away on the 11th of August 2012 at Chennai. A staunch “MF” man, his association with the brand preceded his stint at TAFE with his joining Massey Ferguson India (MFI) Limited prior to 1958. Joining TAFE when it took over the MF business in India as Distribution operations Manager, he was instrumental in laying the foundation of the Sales and Marketing function at TAFE based on his experience with the Massey Ferguson system of working.

Born on 18th April 1923 in what is now Pakistan, he survived a personally traumatic flight to India. A graduate Agricultural Engineer, he served for a short while with the government agricultural farm, prior to joining Massey Ferguson India Limited. He brought to TAFE, many of the systems practiced at MFI and was very particular about post sales customer support even then, encouraging dealers to invest in service infrastructure, parts stocks and in training of dealer service personnel.

A well read and widely travelled person, with his tall stature and his trademark pipe in his hand, he was for many years the face of TAFE to many overseas associates. He never stopped learning and made it a point to learn about latest developments in marketing management and general industry. A connoisseur of good food and beverages, he was excellent company and would regale people at office parties with his tongue in cheek humorous anecdotes of early days at TAFE and was an effective foil for the more earthy humour of his colleague at TAFE and MFI, Mr. RL Sehgal.

Our sympathies to the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace
