Rupa Narpat Singh, daughter of long time TAFE employee, Mr. Narpat Singh was featured in the Racing World (October-November 2014) magazine for her brilliant achievement of winning the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) held in Warsaw, Poland. Pitted against 10 top women jockeys from around the world, Rupa who is also an M. Phil and MBA graduate conquered the tricky rainy conditions with ease, showcasing her talent and class.

Riding since she was 13 years old, Rupa was taught to ride by her grandfather Mr. Ugam Singh and encouraged by her father Mr. Narpat Singh to turn professional as a jockey. Winning more than 500 races in about 3000 races in the Chennai and Ooty circuit, Rupa won the IFAHR astride the horse, Nicolas.

“It is a fantastic win, beating 10 women jockeys from various countries who were invited to participate in this event. Rupa did India proud,” said Silva Storai, the only woman jockey with two Derby victories. “I know how difficult it is to compete against men in this high-risk sport,” said Silva, speaking to The Times of India. Josef Siwonia, a leading Polish trainer, while speaking to the gulfnews.com observed, “A young lady of her talent can create wonders with her dedication anywhere.”

Rupa will compete next in the champion of champions event on November 11 at Abu Dhabi. We wish her all the very best for the event!
